I've been using ModernUI for a while now. I love the way Microsoft made SharePoint so much easier. Remember the time that you had to say click here click here to insert the webpart, now just click "Edit" and press the + sign where you want. Easy as that! The learning curve is getting a whole lot less steep. I haven't had the chance to give workshops around ModernUI but I'm willing to put this to the test and see if it's intuitive enough.

Default feature: The news! |
The first thing on the ModernUI site you see is the huge grey bar. Ok Microsoft haven't finished this part of the site yet. In the Delve blogs you can adjust it easily but not in ModernUI YET!
If you look past the grey bar you see the News webpart and the Site activity, nothing more! The times I had customers saying "we want news on the homepage" well there you go! Clean and once you click on "See all" it shows you even more news in a neat list. It's a smart webpart, if you have an image in the text it will add that as item image. Sure maybe a more specific image would be better but for now it will do.

Such a clean Menu and Titel |
The menu has also been changed, search works much faster and the menu is easier to adjust for the users. The site logo has been moved from the top left corner to the right of the quick launch. If you have a logo around the 96px by 96px the result is good.

How nice is this no more search just a default Site activity Webpart |
Site activity is maybe my favorite webpart. Gives you a clear view of what is going on in the site. What are other members doing? Are they adding new documents, images or even new pages. In the past you would build this with search or maybe a content roll up. Now Microsoft gives you this right out of the box
Other webparts worth mentioning:
- Yammer feed - yes no more embedded scripts, right out of the box
- Quick links - maybe you want to show some links to other sites or documents
- Document - put a document right in the spotlight! Maybe you want to show your Projectdocument or an important Excel sheet
- Embed - Embed a Youtube video in your site, how cool is that!
- Highlighted content - show content you find import (documents, pages, images, video etc..)
- Chart - Add a chart to your site, the sad thing it's not possible to use a list at this moment you can only use hard values
- Bing Map - Add a map to your site powered by Bing
I found two new ones today:
|
One or multiple images as a layout |
- ***Hero - Put an image in the spotlight, you can have it like a carrousel with one image or use multiple images and put them in a window.
|
***Hero |
- ***People - Show the people that are contributing to the project or in the team. Very nice feature Microsoft is going to introduce I guess because it doesn't look finished at this moment.
|
***People |
